Dickinson’s Real Deal is one of the most popular television programmes on UK TV. Hosted by the charismatic and often eccentric David Dickinson the show has gone from strength to strength since its first broadcast in November 2006. It has had 9 successful series with the 10th series up and coming which will start in November 2013.
The contemporary antiques and collectables programme is aired on ITV in the afternoon and then later repeated on sister channel ITV3. The show sees everyday people bringing their items along to various venues in the UK to discover whether they are of any value or not. Several surprises have been unearthed during the show where items, thought by their owners to be worth almost nothing have turned out to be quite valuable. Items that have been sitting somewhere in their owners houses, gathering dust in attics and cupboards and the like, have been assessed by the dealers and large sums of money have been offered for them. The way the show works is that if the dealers think an item is worth something they will offer the owner money in cash. It is up to the owner then to decide whether or not the deal is good enough to sell their item. Dickinson steps in to give them advice and often to try and negotiate a higher offer!
In the meantime independent valuers assess how much the item is actually worth and this figure is then revealed to the audience at home so they know whether the seller is getting a deal, or in fact selling out too early! If the seller chooses to decline the dealers offer and hold onto their item, this then goes into an auction later in the programme to see whether they did in fact make the right choice!
The regular competitions from Dickinson’s Real Deal mean that viewers at home also have the chance to win big and pocket some enviable sums of money. So what are you waiting for? Go to ITV and enter the competition today, you never know, you just might be the lucky winner!
