Joan Collins is joining the small cast of ITV’s comedy Benidorm! The hugely popular Dynasty actress is looking forward to her new role as a fierce hotel hotel businesswoman named Crystal. Filming begins in Spain soon. Everyone on the Benidorm cast is excited that Joan is part of the team because she’s so fun and easy to work with.
Golden Globe winner and Emmy-nominee, Joan Collins, possesses a star quality that circles the globe. In five decades, she has come to define what it means to be a living legend. As an accomplished actor, author, producer, humanitarian and entrepreneur, Joan Collins has built a career that places her in the unrivaled ranks of international superstar and icon. In recognition of a lifetime of contributions to the arts, culture and charitable causes, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II honored Joan Collins with an O.B.E. title in 1997, making her an Officer of the British Empire. She shot to worldwide super-stardom playing the vengeful Alexis Carrington in cult 80s soap Dynasty.
And Joan Collins is now set to make a return to the small screen as she joins the cast of ITV1 comedy, Benidorm, for its upcoming sixth series.
The 80-year-old actress will take on the role of a fierce hotel businesswoman called Crystal, who is set to find an enemy in the form of Joyce-Temple Savage, played by Sherrie Hewson.
Filming will get underway in sunny Spain next month, and the legendary actress is said to have been a fan of the hilarious show for years.
Announcing her new project via her Twitter page, Joan paid reference to her former on-screen arch-enemy Krystle Carrington – played by Linda Evans – who was married to her alter-ego Alexis Carrington’s former flame Blake in Dynasty.
She wrote: ‘Looking forward to going to Spain to be in #Benidorm , And I’m playing Crystal yes I am!! But not the dynasty one.’
Meanwhile, ITV chiefs are said to be thrilled at having bagged such a well-known star for the role.
A source told The Sun: ‘Show bosses are over the moon to have Joan on board for series six of the show.
‘In coming up with Crystal, the show’s creator Derren Litten has written a brilliant character for her. It’s a huge honour to have an actress of her standing join us.’
While Joan is said to have been a fan of the comedy for some time, the filming dates have never worked out to allow her to take on a guest role in Benidorm.
Other guest stars set to appear in the upcoming sixth season include the return of Matthew Kelly as Cyril Babcock, as well as former Brookside actor Philip Olivier, who will play a sexy barman to rival Jake Canuso’s Mateo.
Joan’s sister, author Jackie Collins, first revealed the star’s obsession with the Spanish-based series in a Twitter message to creator and writer Derren in 2011.
She wrote: ‘Benidorm is totally fab. My sis Joan Collins would love to do a guest shot on it. I got her addicted!!!’
And while Derren had actually quit the show at the time, he soon admitted writing a part for the legendary star would persuade him to return to the helm of the series.
He said: ‘Joan Collins in Benidorm??!! I ain’t gonna let ANYONE else write that. Looks like I’m coming back.’
Benidorm first hit screens back in 2007, and has twice been named as Best Sitcom at the National Television Awards. The show now regularly pulls in viewing figures of over eight million.
I just love Joan Collins, how about you? She’s even more appealing after seeing she’s willing to take a role in a small comedy after attaining such heights at Dynasty. Benidorm will be the comedy series to watch later this year.
