It seems that BBC Formula One broadcaster Jake Humphrey is currently in trials for a new job: being Holly Willoughby co-host on ITV’s show This Morning.
The duo has recently done a screen test together on the set of the daytime program, filming a trial-version of the show. An inside source has revealed that Holly and Jake are really good friends and they’ve worked very well together, which makes them a believable presenting duo for the future.
The show has been through a rocky year due to the scandal that involved Phillip Schofield, its long-serving male presenter, who was criticised for giving David Cameron a list of supposed pedophiles during a live interview. But despite of that the people at ITV insist that the show’s future is safe.
The general opinion is that rising star Jake will be a good choice to replace Phillip when he’s absent, as well on Fridays during the summer, when usually Eamonn Holmes would be the stand-in, presenting Monday to Thursday. However, there is some speculation that sparked saying that Jake, could be considered an eventual successor of Phillip. Also, he and Holly are also viewed as a fresh option for new prime-time entertainment shows.
Jake recently walked away from a four-year exclusive deal with BBC to front football coverage on a new BT sport’s channel, which made him a good choice for ITV to sign him. The inside source said: The BBC were mad to let Jake walk away from an exclusive deal. They spent years nurturing him as a major presenter. Now ITV looks likely to swoop in and give him work.
An official ITV spokesperson didn’t want to confirm the rumour saying that Jake is just one of a number of people to screen test for us recently — an on-going process for any long-running daily show. It would be nice to see Jake on the daytime show, because he proved to be a real household name, after covering last year’s London Olympic Games.
