Teasers Released for Downton Abbey’s Christmas Special for 2013

Laura Carmichael is exited about Christmas because she will have time to settle down with her family and friends.  A little off time is good for the soul, and she’s ready for a break from the studios. And while she’s enjoying herself, Downton Abbey’s Christmas Special for 2013 will be viewed by millions in the UK. Some special teasers for Downton Abbey’s Christmas Special have been released and they are juicy!  See below.

The wait is finally over – details of the Downton Abbey two-hour Christmas special have now been revealed and it’s set to be full of laughter, tears and plenty of drama.

Viewers catch up with the Crawley family six months on from where we left them at the end of series four. And with Buckingham Palace featuring in the special festive helping as the Crawleys head to London for Rose’s ‘coming out’, viewers are in for a far happier Christmas special than last year’s, which saw show favourite Matthew Crawley killed off in a car accident hours after welcoming his and Lady Mary’s son.

Earlier in the year, Downton executive producer Liz Trubridge assured fans that there would be no character deaths in the Christmas episode, adding: ‘It is packed full of story and it is without question the biggest episode we have ever done. It is the most spectacular, it’s not set at Christmas and we won’t be splitting up the family and the servants this time.’

Rose’s ‘coming out’

Taking centre-stage in the Christmas episode is debutante Rose’s ‘coming out’, which will see the Crawleys and their servants travel to their previously unseen London residence, Grantham House, as Rose, played by Lily James, is presented at Buckingham Palace to King George V and his wife Queen Mary by Cora (Elizabeth McGovern).

Even Cora’s mother Martha Levinson (Shirley MacLaine) makes the journey across the Atlantic with her playboy son Harold (Paul Giamatti) making his first appearance. With the return of MacLaine’s character, we’re in for more laughter and battle of wit between Martha and Lady Grantham (Dame Maggie Smith).

But how will Rose’s ‘coming out’ go as the Crawleys and their American additions mix with London’s high society? And despite being surrounded by bachelors, will Rose ever be able to forget about jazz musician Jack Ross (Gary Carr)? Will the great British stiff upper lip be preserved?

And while this festive helping of the Crawley family is guaranteed to be far cheerier than last year’s as the house and its servants celebrate the summer season, what could the great scandal be that is threatening the Crawleys and the entire Royal family? Will Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) be able to save them all?
