Strictly Comes Dancing Climbs to the Top of the Charts

Strictly Come Dancing is back and climbed to the top of the charts the very first night. The most popular dancing show in history, Strictly pulled in a record 8.59 million viewers.  I’m betting you were one of them! Here’s a quick review of the first edition of this 2013 series.

Strictly Come Dancing

BBC One’s celebrity dancing contest Strictly Come Dancing saw off competition from Stepping Out and The X Factor to take the overnight ratings crown.

8.43 million tuned in to the Tess Daly and Bruce Forsyth fronted Strictly Come Dancing launch show on BBC One while its new rival Stepping Out, hosted by Davina McCall, pulled in a miserable 2.15 million – losing over a million viewers since last weeks outing.

The later airing X Factor also failed to topple the BBC juggernaut for the overall long-stay ratings with the ITV talent contest managing a reasonable 7.94 million. A decline in ratings from its debut edition with a fall of 840k.

The X Factor did have a short spike in viewing of 8.59 million but it wasn’t sustained long enough to take the bigger audience share with Strictly reaching 41.3% of the available audience compared to The X Factor’s 36.3%.

ITV’s critically panned revived game show Through The Keyhole with Keith Lemon also saw ratings drop from its opening 5.5 million to 4 million.
