Simon Cowell Will Return as Judge on Britain’s Got Talent

The TV magnate said that beginning next year, Cowell and ITV will definitely start the process of hashing out a new deal, with a revamp of the show to deal with the rankings decrease best of the plan. The US version of The X Variable, broadcast on Fox, is also struggling in the rankings.

Just days after disappointing ratings for The X Factor finals led to renewed calls for Simon Cowell to return to the show, he has confirmed he will be back on the judges panel from the start of the 2013 series of his other hit ITV format, Britain’s Got Talent.

Cowell will again be on the Britain’s Got Talent judging panel when filming of auditions begins on 16 January. In 2011 he skipped the pre-recorded auditions, only appearing on screen from the start of the live shows later in the series. This year Cowell was present on screen for the whole series.

His full-time return to Britain’s Got Talent will fuel speculation he may also rejoin the judges panel for The X Factor, which has seen its audiences slip by several million since Cowell moved to the US in 2010 to focus on Fox’s version of The X Factor.

The announcement comes days after the final of The X Factor, which was won by James Arthur, attracted the lowest audience for a series finale since 2006.

Cowell, who got on well with fellow judge David Walliams in this year’s BGT, said he was pleased with the chemistry of the panel, which includes Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon.

“I loved doing the show last year, the new panel worked really well and I’m very happy they have all agreed to come back,” Cowell said. “Last year was a special year for talent and I hope that in 2013, off the back of an amazing year for Britain, we find another global star.”
