Lorraine Kelly talks about Daybreak’s dropping ratings

In a recent interview for the Star Magazine breakfast presenter Lorraine Kelly opened up her shows last year’s falling ratings. The ITV show Daybreak reportedly lost  100,000 viewers in the past year, but despite that , the Scottish presenter is remaining positive calling the ratings just ‘statistics’. The beloved presenter said that: We still have a long way to go but we’re heading in the right direction. We’re getting there but it won’t change overnight. It’ll be a year before we can fully turn it around,’ the presenter added, staying positive about the future. My 8.30am show is up year-on-year, and from 7.30 onwards, it’s better than it’s ever been.

Lorraine also said that the situation might be caused by all the change the show has been going through since 2010: There was too much change too soon,’ said Lorraine, discussing the switch from GMTV to Daybreak in 2010. ‘People like familiarity. I was still l there at 8.30am but everything else changed.

Lorraine replaced Christine Bleakley in September last year, along with Aled Jones, following a big revamp of the Daybreak show.

But Lorraine thinks that the show will take the right turn soon and they will definitely get there. An ITV spokesperson said about the situation: We are confident with the editorial direction of the show and have a strong presenting team. The last quarter of 2012 saw us achieve the highest audiences of the year with the new look show and we look forward to building on this.

Maybe they could be saved by the breakfast TV sofa star , Mr Roland Rat, who just celebrated his 30th birthday. Roland Rat first appeared on the airwaves in 1983 and quickly became a celebrity that helped the falling ratings of the ITV’s breakfast show increase from 100,000 to 1.8 million.  Roland and his friends Errol the Hamster, Kevin the Gerbill and Glenys the Guinea Pig ruled over the ITV network and then moved to the BBC and Channel 5. He has been a special guest on a lot of primetime shows like Celebrity Big Brother, The Weakest Link or The One Show.

Maybe it could be a good idea to turn the Ratmobile and bring him back on the breakfast show sofa…
