Katie Hopkins does yet another controversial interview on ITV’s This Morning

The mum of three has some strong and contentious opinions about childhood obesity.

Former Apprentice contestant Katie Hopkins does not seem to be able to go a day without offending people. Well at least not an interview anyway. In another appearance on ITV’s This Morning.

She first sparked anger amongst the British public in an interview saying that she would happily judge children by their names. So for example if a child was called Tyrone, she would not allow her children to play with them under the presumption that they would be disruptive and not come from a background that she would want her want her own children to associate with.

Naturally this caused a lot of anger amongst people in particular This Mornings own Holly Willoughby who found it hard to mask her disgust.

Hopkins made further blunders by insisting people calling their children names like names of places would be ones she would judge negatively.

Her own child is called India.

Following on from this, in this week’s interview Katie called for parents to ‘man up’ saying that the problem of childhood obesity could be blamed directly on parents saying.

‘Behind every fat child there is a fat mother who should take full responsibility.’

Even besides the fact that statistically this is incorrect, she failed to recognise that there are a number of factors behind why a child may become overweight, and not all of these could be put down to home life.

She claimed that parents should stop protecting their children, telling them that they were beautiful etc and should instead ‘get a grip’ and simply tell their children that they were fat. The tough love approach seemed to be the only way in Hopkins’ mind that the children would take their weight seriously and take the responsibility of looking after themselves into their own hands.

This was contested by fellow guest Sonia Poulton who expressed the point that if children were taught to be kind to others and treat others as they would want to be treated this would be far more beneficial that talking to them in a cruel and spiteful way which could have a negative effect on their mental health. Katie however decided to get personal attacking Poulton’s appearance instead of giving a proper answer.
