Another shock as Shelley Smith is the second contestant to leave The X Factor 2013

In another action packed episode the second live round episode of ITV’s The X Factor took place on Saturday and both the audience and viewers at home were shocked when Shelley Smith was voted out of the competition during week two’s ‘heartbreak’ round.

Shelley’s poor first performance did not impress the judges or audience and it was another shock flash vote (a new voting technique in this series X Factor) that saw Shelley and boy band Kingsland Road in the bottom two and in the sing off to compete for another chance in the competition.

Shelly sang the soulful Sam Brown’s Stop. Her performance was certainly heartfelt and filled with emotion but sadly this wasn’t enough to see her through and it was to be her very last performance as she left the X Factor stage for the final time last week.

It was pretty bad news for Sharon Osbourne as Smith was Sharon’s second act to leave the competition in as many weeks. Sharon had previously expressed her shock and outrage at Lorna Simpson’s departure last week and couldn’t believe it was happening again. Sharon fought hard for Shelley to stay, obviously voting for her to remain in the competition during the judges vote. However both Gary and Nicole demonstrated they were not Shelley’s biggest fan and thought that Kingsland road were more deserved of another shot. They therefore both voted for Shelley to go home. Sharon begged and pleaded with Louis to try to make the vote a tie in which case it would have gone to ‘Deadlock’ and therefore reverted to who got the lowest public vote, however even a kiss couldn’t sway him and Louis too voted for Shelley to leave making it three votes to one and a done deal. Sharon now only has one act left in the competition and all her hopes lie on the lovely Sam Bailey for any chance of her winning. However its fairly well known that the overs do tend to struggle in the competition with audiences, judges and the general public tending to favour the younger contestants.

Gary got his first taste of loosing with the Kingsland Road barely scraping by. He described his boys being in the bottom two as a ‘big shock’ but went on to defend them saying that he ‘wouldn’t have changed anything about their performance.’

Celebrity performances on Sunday’s show included the rather controversial Robin Thickie and well known pop star Katie Perry.

Unfortunately girl band Miss Dynamix were unable to perform as they were a member short with pregnant SeSe being rushed to hospital after ‘feeling faint’. The girls expressed their sadness at not having a chance to perform especially as they had worked so hard on their songs for the night. Band member Jeanette said they were feeling ‘Extremely disappointed,’ and explained how they felt saying ‘we’ve never worked this hard in the competition before. SeSe’s health comes first. It didn’t make sense to perform without her.’

However lucky for them they were given a ‘free pass’ into the next round of the contest. Now they have a lot to prove next week. It has been reported that SeSe is find and resting after her ordeal though the singer stressed it was not her pregnancy that caused her to fall ill but the pressure of the show. Sadly it doesn’t look like the pressure is going to let up anytime soon as the more acts that are voted out of the competition the more intense it will become.

Now there are only nine acts left in the competition and for weeks threes theme it’s movie week. Hopefully this will give the contestants a chance to get in touch with their truly dramatic side and get creative, we can’t wait!
