Dapper Laughs Cut by ITV After First Season

adDapper Laughs, barely a season old, has been cut by ITV. IT will finish out this season but then the show must not go on. The reason? It’s due to a widespread public outcry that the show presents a “misogynistic” attitude towards women that perpetuates “everyday sexism.” More than 50,000 people have signed an online petition calling on ITV to not commission another series of comedian Dapper Laughs’ show.

ITV has decided not to commission a second series of comedian Dapper Laughs’ show, following a series of complaints.

The broadcaster has received 29 complaints from the public since first airing and an online petition to stop a second series being commissioned has garnered over 50,000 signatories.

The petition accuses comedian Daniel O’Reilly, whose alter ego is Dapper Laughs, of a “misogynistic” attitude towards women that perpetuates “everyday sexism”.

An ITV spokesman said:

We have given careful thought to the recent criticism of the character Dapper Laughs, which has focused on his activities outside of the ITV2 programme, whose content was carefully considered and complied. We have taken the decision that we will not be considering this show for a second series.

The final episode of the first series aired on November 7th and it has not yet been decided whether there will be a second.

Responding to the petition, the broadcaster said it regretted if any viewers were offended, but that the show was carefully considered before being broadcast.

Inside the Dapper Laughs production team, spirits are not high. But the star of the show, Daniel O’Reilly, will probably not slip into obscurity. Instead of drifting into non-awareness as he should, there’s a very good chance that he’ll turn into a reality-show fixture instead. Let’s see what the future holds for Daniel O’Reilly and his absurd sense of sex-rape-humor. That type of humor is not acceptable to most ITV viewers and that’s why ITV cut the show Dappler Laughs.
