Dancing on Ice is back!

Finally after much anticipation ITV’s Dancing on Ice returns to our screens!

Well it really seems like forever since the last series of Dancing on Ice finished and we watched with delight as hosts silver fox Philip Schofield and the lovely Christine Bleakley announced the winner. It was a fantastic series with the legendary Torvil and Dean acting as mentors to the celebrity competitors and Jason Gardiner, Ashley Roberts, Karen Barber and Robin Cousins making up the judging panel.

There was a great deal of tension as we watched the final two couples battle it out for the title. Matt Lapinskas the former EastEnders actor with his professional partner Brianne Delcourt where pipped at the post by the expected winners Beth Tweddle the Olympic gymnast with her professional partner Daniel Watson. Some may say it was unfair to have a professional gymnast in the competition as sure she would have an unfair advantage coming from a sporting world where poise, grace and balance are all attributes needed which are much the same for skating. However it was wonderful to watch her amazing final performance and we think she was a truly deserved victor.

So it was with eager anticipation that we waited for the new and sadly final series to begin. The media had of course been speculating for months who was going to be in the show and it was exciting to see many ex Dancing on Ice contestants returning for a final showdown in the final series of the popular show EVER.

In fact a grand total of 6 of the past winner of the competition s will be gracing our screens once more. Among other X Factor’s Ray Quinnis returning and is the current hot favourite to win as well as ex Hear’say band member Suzanne Shaw and much loved actor Todd Carty (who played Mark in soap opera EastEnders).

Philip Schofield teased viewers by tweeting that a nasty surprise would face the contestants in the very first show. He wrote

“A very cruel twist at the end, it’s going to be brutal! But the standard of skating in (sic) immense #DOI,”

However he refused to say more encouraging people to tune in and watch the action for themselves. It seems Dancing on Ice is set to be the most exciting series yet. Certainly some of the pairings took us by surprise with the sexy Holloyoaks actress Jorgie Porter teaming up with her best mates ex-boyfriend. Jorgie’s partner is Sylvaine Longchambon the Dancing on Ice professional who allegedly dumped Jennifer Metcalfe on Christmas day for his then Dancing on Ice partner Samia Ghadi! Let’s hope the gloves don’t come off in the very first show!

Luckily we needn’t worry as Jorgie and Sylvaine seem not to have hit it off either on or off the ice and were the first couple to be voted off the show. Whether this was simply due to their chemistry on the ice or because Jorgie felt uncomfortable being around the man who broke her best friends heart is anyone’s guess however both Jorgie and Philip made a couple of digs at Sylvaine’s expense during the programme. Jorgie, on finding out who her partner was joked ‘does that mean I am going to be his girlfriend now’ while during the show Philip put his two pence worth in remarking’ Jorgie’s hoping to win the main prize this time. I’m not talking about Sylvain, obviously.’ It was all in good fun we are sure!

Despite the initial awkward paring the first episode of the series was a hit. It has been reported that Philip and Christine might even take to the rink themselves this series, after pressure on them to do so since they partnered up to present the show!
