Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway Looks to the United States

My favorite saturday night show — Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway — is expanding into the United States market. Their light family-style humor and exciting pranks will appeal to Americans and ITV is actively shopping the show to US television broadcasters now. There’s nothing firm in writing yet, but television viewers in the United States are ready for a new variety show. Saturday Night Takeway will fit the bill nicely.

American networks have been looking to bring the variety format back to primetime, most recently NBC with The Maya Rudolph Show, now they have another choice. ITV Studios America is shopping an U.S. version of the popular ITV program Saturday Night Takeaway. Originally launched in 2002, Saturday Night Takeaway, hosted and executive produced by top British TV presenters Ant & Dec, is one of the most successful entertainment variety shows in the UK.

It offers a mix of games, physical tasks as well as pranks that often involve the show’s celebrity guests (use the link below to watch a clip with an elaborate prank on TV chef Gordon Ramsay). Audience members are chosen at random to participate in challenges, and viewers at home can be selected to receive surprise visits with the chance to win prizes. After nine seasons, Saturday Night Takeaway went on hiatus in 2009. It came back last year, winning BAFTA for Entertainment Programme and Entertainment Performance (Ant & Dec). The format has local versions in several countries including Germany, Serbia, China and Belgium.

We can’t congratulate Ant and Dec now on their Saturday Night Takeaway expanding into the United States, but we are sure NBC or another American broadcaster will jump at the opportunity. There hasn’t been a new and exciting variety show for a long time now that competition shows such as X-Factor and American Idol have taken the prime time. Keep your eyes on this spot!

TV Competitions

TV weekly prize draws and competitions often top a quarter of a million pounds in cash prizes, holidays, gadgets and cars, with television station itv and Channel 4 being the most generous.

Many Internet and TV programmes have a free online entry, however some do not & entry must be made by premium phone or sms. It is usually cheaper to enter using a postcard if that is an option.

We post Internet & TV competitions here daily, including information on the lowest cost or free entry methods so keep an eye out!
