A look on Tom Daley on ITV

Just as ITV announced the second season of the ‘Splash!’ series, we take a look at its star Tom Daley and his life highlights.

The handsome diver (not a swimmer, as he likes to specify) is born on 21st May 1994 in Plymouth, where he still lives with his Mum, Debbie and his two brothers, Will and Ben. He started his diving training at the Plymouth Diving Club, where he was spotted by a coach who placed in 2002 in a competitive squad. Two years later he made his competitive debut at the Nationals, and became the youngest ever under 18 champion. He won the 1m springboard, 3m springboard and platform in 2004, 2005 and 2006. Since then, he was never beaten in his age group at any National Championship!

Tom Daley Olympic Success

In 2007 his international success has begun when he joined the Australian Youth Olympic Festival with a special dispensation because he was only twelve years old. The required minimum age is fifteen. A year later, at 13 years old he was given a special dispensation to compete as well, continuing to impress. He proved everyone wrong by turning his disadvantage into a Silver medal in the 10m Platform Synchro event and finished on the fourth place in the individual competition.

2008 – Daley’s year

2008 was definitely one of the best years for Tom! He started the year by qualifying for the Beijing Olympic Games and he secured his place by finishing seventh in 10m Platform at the FINA World Cup.  Also, a month later, he won a Gold medal at the European Championships held in Eindhoven, becoming the youngest person to win Gold. At the Summer Olympics he made it to the finals, placing 8th in the synchronised platform competition, and 7th in the individual platform competition. He was already a prospect for the 2012 London Olympics.

2009 brought him more medals and more titles, scoring a perfect 10 at the Diving Grand Prix in Florida and winning the individual platform title at the World Championships held in Rome. 2010 was the year for a double Gold victory at the Commonwealth’s – in the 10m Platform and 10m Platform Sychro events, but also the year of his GCSE’s where he scored, of course, A’s and A*’s. He was made BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2010.

Even though he suffered a thumb injury before the 2012 Olympics, he still tried his best to bring some of the gold home, becoming Britain’s youngest male Olympian. He came in fourth, leading to some offensive Twitter messages which ended with the arrest of two people.

ITV Star Celebrity

Nowadays Tom has embraced a different career: TV star. He is involved in the celebrity reality series “Splash!” where he mentors the participants. His stardom is rapidly increasing, being named the hottest hunk in Heat magazine’s top 101 hottest hunks of 2013, up ranking David Beckam or Harry Styles.
