3 ITV stars might leave the network

Christine and Adrian on Daybreak

The future might not be so bright for three of ITV’s stars, which could get axed by the network when their contracts end this year. Christine Bleakley, Adrian Chiles and Jonathan Ross, some of the highest paid stars at ITV, could not have their contracts renewed due to ratings that they failed to deliver after they switched from BBC1 to ITV, three years ago. The three presenters have combined earnings of £5 millions.

An inside source talked with the Daily Star saying that: It is fair to say that we paid top dollar for Jonathan, Christine and Adrian and to be frank they haven’t delivered the ratings we had hoped and expected. Any new deal they might be offered would be on greatly reduced terms.

Adrian Chiles and Christine Bleakley were brought initially to host Daybreak, and they both signed a four year contracts that are believed to end next year. Jonathan had a two year deal contract, for £4 million that also will end this year. Apparently he is ‘resigned to his fate’, of saying goodbye to his Saturday night show. The source added that they have other ideas for Jonathan after his chat show ends but that depends on whether they can agree on the terms. Jonathan has been beaten in the ratings by Graham Norton and his show, which gets 4 million viewers on Friday nights, compared to 3 million viewers that Ross gets on Saturdays.

Adrian, on the hand, is completely oblivious about his troubled future, declaring recently: I love working for ITV, long may it continue. Adrian and Christine quit Daybreak very quick, because it proved to be a failure. Adrian was given a weekend chat show, which was also cancelled, and Christine became a host at Dancing On Ice and other various special shows for the channel.

These three big earners might not have a bright future, but Jake Humphrey has received already an offer to become the face of football next year for BT Vision.
