The renowned breakfast TV programme celebrates its twenty fifth anniversary at Liverpool’s Albert Docks where the show first began.

This Morning has been a television staple for many Britons and has spanned generations having been on our TV screens now for an impressive 25 years. Throughout that time is has seen many TV presenters come and go, and current presenting duo Philip Schofield and Holly Willoughby journeyed to Liverpool last week to where it all started a quarter of a century ago.

The show first aired on the 3rd October 1998 with celebrity couple Richard Madely and Judy Finnegan leading the programme. Their warm, humorous presenting style was an instant hit with viewers and saw them continue to stay on the show for many years to come. In fact they pair continued at the helm right up until 2001. For the anniversary celebration they returned to the This Morning sofa for the first time since they handed over the reins to look back at some of the funniest and most special moments of the programme during its 25 years.

Eamonn Holmes who now presents on Fridays show also came to take part in the special live show. He and wife Ruth were another husband and wife team who have presented the show for 10 years alongside Philip and Holly who continue to present today. Eamon described how the what the show meant to him saying:

“I have worked with many leading ladies but not with one I love and then married! And so for me, that will always rank as why This Morning is special because I do it with the woman I love”.

The presenters old and new shared their favourite memories of times on the show included favourite guests they had interviewed such as Barry White and Dame Edna. Memorable moments such as Richard’s brave and somewhat inexplicable decision to dress up as Ali G and Holly Willoughby’s uncontainable frustration at remarks made by The Apprentice contestant Katie Hopkins about children’s names being linked to class. Then there were other ‘never to be forgotten moments’ both on the show and off it such as the streaker during the weather forecast and Judy’s fashion faux pax when her dress dropped during an acceptance speech for an award for the show at the National Televison awards.

This Morning has truly become something of a British institution and is sure to continue to delight audiences for many years to come.
